Hi. I am Joe Paul, the general Manager of Saltery Lodge and also am blessed to be one of the 2 Captains who take our guests out into the waters surrounding the Ketchikan area.  I was hired by the owners Scott and Angela Kemp to run the seasonal operations as well as the off season business and marketing efforts it takes to make an entity like this successful.

Alaska is part of my being and I couldn’t imagine life without it.  For the past 20 years I have owned and managed Alaska sport fishing lodges from the Kenai area to the Bristol Bay watershed.  I am a mid time bush pilot and 20 year licensed Master Coast Guard Captain.  I love what I do and truly enjoy sharing this wonderful state of Alaska with new and old friends every year.

Alaska fishing has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember.  What’s great about Southeast is that the fishing is only a part of the adventure.  The boat ride to the fishing grounds may take us by Whales, Sea Lions, Bears and Deer on the beach, or a feeding school of Dall Porpoises.  You just never know what you’re going to see when we leave the lodge.  And the fishing is amazing.  The Silver Salmon that this region is famous for are Gorilla’s.   For the non-fisher-person, there are numerous options to explore our area or just relax in a luxurious setting and take it all in.

Service is everything

I realized early in my guiding career that this is a service business and have always stressed quality in everything we offered.  This new lodge with all it’s amenities is nothing short of spectacular.  The property, lodge, boats and our services are absolutely second to none.  With that being said, it was a perfect fit for my wife and I, and we are as anxious as when we first started to share this beautiful location with you.

I take pride in what I do and and am proud to be a representative of such a quality operation.  All of my past services have been catered towards small groups and this lodge in no exception.  With a maximum capacity of 8 guests per week we can tailor trips to individual needs and not have guests get lost in the crowds.

We are waiting for you

My wife Janice, who by the way is an awesome chef in her own right, and I would love the opportunity to share our love for the wilds of Alaska with you and your family.  You can count on a wholesome environment, first class service and a staff that will cater to your every need.  The only thing missing is you at the end of the rod, or camera, or kayak paddle.
So what are you waiting for, Join us next summer at Saltery Lodge.
