Self Guided Fishing is available in our Gold Fishing Package.
Finding Alaska self guided Fishing packages just became easier.
In 2010, Saltery Lodge added self guided fishing to its offerings.
We supply the boats, the gear and the inside track on how and where to catch.
With the perfect combination of luxury accommodations and the thrill of catching fish in Alaska using our covered boats and your skills, this is an offer that can't be topped.
While self guided fishing for saltwater species, you can fish for king salmon, silver salmon, pink salmon, halibut, and other bottom fish.
Halibut are good all summer in southeast Alaska.
The pink salmon peak from July to mid September.
The silver salmon start in July and actually peak in September in our area.
We supply all the gear that you will need to catch salmon and halibut including rods & reels, tackle, bait, rain gear and the inside scoop on what's biting and where to fish.
This self guided fishing trip will be just what you needed to unwind, take some fish home, and enjoy Alaska at its best.
If you want freshwater self guided fishing, there are some great streams that you have access to in our area.
One of the best stream and lake systems in the Ketchikan Area is the Naha River system and is closed to commercial guiding.
But, this gem is open to self guided fishing and our lodge is less than a half mile from the trail head!
We are literally the closest lodge to this system.
We specialize in fly fishing and can give you a few quick lessons if you need it.
We can supply waders, fly rods or spinning rods, all the flies or lures you need, as well as detailed maps on where the bite is hot.
With the Alaska self guided fishing trips, you can expect to catch cutthroat trout, rainbow trout, and Dolley Varden Trout.
Also, July through September is great for catching pink salmon, which pound for pound is one of the hardest fighting salmon.
We really encourage catch and release for freshwater fishing.
Our self guided fishing features 20 foot aluminum boats with covered tops.
They are fully equipped with down riggers and cruise about 28-30 MPH.
We give you a 50 dollar per day fuel credit per boat, which on average is about what these boats will burn in a day.
The boats fish four people and four rods comfortably, though you can fish six people with four rods in a pinch.
When we assign boats, we fit no more than four to a boat, unless you want to fish six.
We don't mix different groups together on the same boat.
This is why when just two of you book a self guided fishing trip, we have to charge a little more to make sure you get a private boat.
We give you all the tools and techniques to be successful with your self guided fishing.
We don't hold anything back!
The best gear, the best maps, the best techniques and current information as to the location of the fish is part of the deal.
If you have done any kind of fishing before and you can operate a boat, then you will be successful with our self guided fishing.
There are many other things to do while you're here on your self guided Alaska fishing trip.
You can set Dungeness crab and shrimp pots to later enjoy their bounty on the dinner table.
The Alaska wildlife in the area is also plentiful.
Spend some time taking pictures or even going into town and go on excursions.
