Alaska Photography Retreat

There are no two ways about it, Alaska is truly a magical place. Here's your opportunity to come to Alaska and photograph its great beauty, while staying in a wonderful Lodge and dining on the best food. Professionals and amateurs alike are welcome. Help will be provided for those that want it by Scott Kemp, lodge owner, and photographer at Alaska Grand Photography. He will guide most of the trip and take you to the best spots for photography in Ketchikan. There will be many discussions, both formal and informal to explain how to get the most out of your camera and Alaska. This will be a nurturing environment, no judgment, no bad pictures. Just encouragement, knowledge, photography techniques and access to the best of Ketchikan, Alaska, one of Alaska's hidden gems.

Details

The dates for the first trip will be arriving June 18th and departing June 22nd or 23rd (your choice). Ketchikan is an easy 90 minute flight from Seattle, Washington on an Alaska Airlines 737. We will pick you up at the airport and get you out to the lodge.

The price is $2,500 per person for four nights, or $3,000 per person for five nights. This is an all inclusive price, including dining, excursions, boat rides, and guiding. If you decided to take a float plane tour, that will be an additional cost. This is for occupancy of two, as all of our rooms are designed for two people. Beds can be configured as a single queen or two twins. If you a single party, you might try finding a willing partner on Alaska Grand's Facebook site.

The order of deposits will decide the order that you can pick your room (Regular rooms only, master suite not included).

Itinerary

Here is whats on the agenda. Depending on time and weather, we may not get to all of these on the list, but we will try!

  • Hummingbird Photography: The little guys should be in full force about then, and you should get a chance to hold them and have them feed from your hand!
  • Other Birds: There are lots of other birds in the area include bald eagles of course, seagulls, sapsuckers, waterfowl and finches.
  • Bears and Deer: There is no guarantee on the bears or deer. Its too early in the season to get the bears feeding in the streams, so its more of a chance encounter while in the boat.
  • Forests and Waterfalls: We have 62 acres and a waterfall and stream right on the property.
  • Ketchikan City: We'll spend a day in town visiting some popular and some hidden gems in town that the tour passengers don't have access to.
  • Fishing Vessel: Watch the harvest of Alaska's salmon from a commercial fishing vessel.
  • Night Photography: Learn night photography. Hopefully we get at least one clear night. If not, there is still plenty of dark photography to do.
  • Fishing Vessel: Many more exciting photography opportunities that you won't get from a cruise ship visit.

Bring your own camera. There will be a few computers available at the lodge, but you might want to bring your own laptop as well for reviewing shots and archival. If you have more questions, you can ask them in the comments below, if you think they are questions other people would have as well. Or you can contact us directly.
